Yoga
Why yoga?
The ancient discipline of yoga was designed to bring about balance and health. Yoga is a low-risk practice that enhances physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness. There are many styles of yoga, but their basic principles are similar. The multiple mind-body practices include:
- Physical postures and exercises
- Breathing techniques
- Deep relaxation practices
- Cultivation of awareness/mindfulness
- Meditation
Yoga reduces the risk of heart disease, strokes and cancer. There are numerous scientific research studies to support yoga as effective in reducing stress, improving emotion regulation and enhancing cognitive functioning. Yoga reduces anxious, ruminating thoughts and the breathing techniques signal your parasympathetic nervous system to calm the body down. Yoga has been successful in treating trauma sufferers.
