Dr Julian Kelman (BMed, MMed, FRANZCP, Cert Child & Adol Psych) is a Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist specialising in the assessment and treatment of children, adolescents, and young adults with a wide range of mental health conditions. He adopts a collaborative approach, working closely with young people, their families, and other providers—such as schools and external clinicians—to deliver holistic, evidence-based care. His practice is grounded in empowering and educating young people and their families to achieve the best possible outcomes.
A Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) and a certified member of its Faculty of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, Julian completed his specialist training at several leading hospitals, including Sydney Children’s Hospital, Prince of Wales Hospital, St Vincent’s Hospital, The Royal Hospital for Women, and The Forensic Hospital. In addition to private practice, he consults within a comprehensive youth assessment service in South Eastern Sydney Local Health District. Julian’s diverse medical background, spanning various specialties before psychiatry, enables him to bring a broad perspective to patient care, ensuring that symptoms potentially linked to other medical conditions are identified and addressed.
Julian is passionate about medical education and training. He has held academic appointments at the University of Sydney Medical School and the University of Newcastle School of Biomedical Sciences and Pharmacy, and currently supervises medical students on clinical placements through the University of New South Wales. Additionally, he has contributed to clinical research through publications and served on numerous training and hospital safety committees.
